Designed to inspire: the first images of our office space

Edward Street Quarter, Brighton’s newest destination which will provide offices, homes, cafes, restaurants and leisure facilities, has provided a tantalising first glimpse of how of its office interiors will look, which have been designed with a post-Covid world in mind.

New computer-generated images of the office interiors provide a virtual ‘walk through’ of the space and show comfy soft furnishings to relax on, plenty of space to socially distance, a stylish modern colour scheme and even indoor living walls.

The mixed-use development by property developer First Base provides 110,000 square feet of much-needed Grade A office space for the city and is designed to attract creative businesses, ambitious start-ups, entrepreneurs and established companies.

A recent poll of Brighton Chamber members showed that 75% would choose a mix of office and remote working from now on. So, with the office still a key component of the working day, the Edward Street Quarter team decided to go one step further than a traditional stylish office space to put creativity, collaboration and wellbeing at the heart of the design.

Steve Eccles, Project Director at First Base, said:

“Everyone wants to be inspired, and that’s exactly what we’ve set out to achieve at Edward Street Quarter. The office space is designed to be sociable and collaborative, but still provide private spots which allow for quiet concentration. It’s somewhere where we hope people can feel happy, healthy and fulfilled, with outside space, cafes, restaurants and leisure facilities to enjoy on site too.”

First Base also worked with renowned engineers Buro Happold to design in features that would boost mental and physical wellbeing, adding to the feelgood factor of working by the sea.

These include:
• Air filters and sensors to eliminate indoor pollutant levels.
• Three public green spaces, heavily planted with mature trees and an ‘edible’ garden full of herbs
• Floor to ceiling windows to bring in lots of natural light
• Walking and cycling trails around the site to encourage people to exercise. Plus, cycle parking and showers.
• A library to encourage people to take a break and read.
